On 1 December 2021 the CAROTS partners came together for a final meeting online hosted by the project’s lead partner Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY in Hamburg, Germany.

The partners looked back at insights gained as well as highlights of the project such as the first CAROTS Startup School. Scientific Service Companies (SSCs) can fill gaps in Europe’s innovation ecosystem, and with the newly established Startup School all partners were able accompany the creation of two brand new SSCs as well as the expansion of two existing companies.

Having found out that while there are many national funding programmes that help SMEs buy research services, the project only found one programme that involves SSCs to bring industrial companies to large-scale Research Infrastructure. Encouraging more countries than Sweden with the Vinnova programme to promote access to large-scale RI via SSCs was discussed as outlook into the future. The published results of the CAROTS project will certainly help with this endeavour.
